Yearbook Club



We the people of the Chackbay Elementary Yearbook Club do establish this CONSTITUTION


ARTICLE I- NAME, PURPOSE, AND DUTIES


1. This organization will be called the Chackbay Elementary School Yearbook Club. It will consist of members drawn from the Student Body, an Executive Board elected by the members, and an Adviser from the Faculty to work with the Executive Board.


2. The Yearbook Club will have these purposes:
a. To encourage active participation by all students in the various extra-curricular activities of Chackbay Elementary School.
b. To develop leadership qualities, organizational skills, and democratic ideals in preparing the students of Chackbay Elementary School for active participation in a democracy.


3. The Yearbook Club will have these duties:
a. To compile pictures of events that take place throughout the year.
b. To organize information that will be used in the yearbook.


ARTICLE II - SOURCE OF AUTHORITY


1. We recognize the authority of the Principal, and his or her right to veto any resolution or motion approved by the Club or any decision of the Executive Board.
2. We recognize the role of the Adviser and the Principal to guide and oversee our operations. He or she will settle all disagreements involving the interpretation of this Constitution.


ARTICLE III - THE CLUB


1. The Club will include:
a. Any member of the fifth grade Student Body has the right to be a representative, except as outlined in the fourth section of this article.


2. There will be a Registration Period of at least five school days, in which interested fifth grade members of the student body will have the opportunity to declare their intent to become a potential candidate for Yearbook Club. Each student will have to complete and turn in an application. The dates for this period
will be set by the Adviser.
a. To register, a student must have maintained an overall combined average of 2.0 or better for the previous school year.
b. To register, a student must not have been assigned In School Suspension, Suspended, or assigned to PASS.


3. The Club will meet quarterly from September through May. Meeting dates will be set by the Adviser and be announced at least two school days in advance, except in case of emergency.


4. A member of the Club who has consistently failed to carry out his or her duties, or who has failed to uphold its standards of ethics and behavior, may be removed as follows:
a. On the fourth absence from meetings or activities, he or she will be automatically removed for the rest of the year. Absences may be excused by the Editor or Adviser with prior notice.
b. Any member that is removed from a meeting due to disciplinary reasons by the Editor or Adviser will be referred to the Principal, who has the power to remove them from the Club for the rest of the year.
c. Any member that is assigned to In School Suspension, Suspended, or assigned to PASS will be automatically removed from the Club for the rest of the year.
d. Any member who has failed to maintain a 2.0 Grade Point Average will be placed on probation for one nine weeks period. If his or her Grade Point Average does not improve by the time the grading period is over, the member will be removed from the council for the rest of the year.
e. Any member who has three letters indicating that he or she is not behaving appropriately in the classroom or not completing class work or homework will be removed from the Club for the rest of the year.
f. Any member who has failed to meet deadlines assigned by the Editor or Adviser will be removed from their position.
g. Any member who receives an office referral will be removed from the club.


ARTICLE IV - THE EXECUTIVE BOARD


1. The Executive Board will be chosen in an election by the Club. All terms for the offices listed below will begin immediately following the election.
a. An Editor
b. A Secretary
c. An Attendance/Point Keeper


2. The Election of Officers for the school year will be held by secret ballot at the Yearbook Club meeting at the beginning of the year. The ballots will be given to the Adviser for counting. All ballots will be kept in a sealed envelope for one year following the date of election.


3. An elected member of the Executive. Board who has consistently failed to carry out his or her duties, or who has failed to uphold its standards of ethics and behavior may be removed as follows:
a. There will first be a meeting with the Adviser and the Principal, at which they discuss a plan for improvement. The Adviser or Principal may request such a meeting to take place. The member involved will then be given a two week probationary period to see if there is any positive change.
b. At the end of this two week probation, the Adviser or Principal may act to remove this member from the Executive Board for the rest of the year.
c. Any member of the Executive Board who fails to uphold the same academic standard required to become a candidate for office in any one marking period, or the same behavioral standards required to become a member throughout their term will automatically be removed for the rest of their term.
d. If a member of the Executive Board resigns or is removed, the Adviser will appoint a replacement. If the Editor resigns or is removed, the Executive Board will choose one of its members to become editor. Any position vacated as a result will be appointed by the Adviser.

ARTICLE V - THE OFFICERS


1. The Editor will:
a. Assist the Adviser in various tasks, as necessary.
b. Prepare an agenda for each meeting of the Club after consulting with the other officers, committee chairpersons, and Adviser.
c. Preside over meetings of the Club, ensuring a fair and full hearing to all concerns and the maintenance of order at all times.
d. Be a member of all standing and special committees.


2. The Secretary will:
a. Assist the Editor and Adviser in various tasks, as necessary.
b. Take the minutes of all Club and Executive Board Meetings.


3. The Attendance/Point Keeper will:
a. Assist the Editor and Adviser in various tasks, as necessary.
b. Maintain accurate attendance records for the Club, and notify members at risk of removal due to excessive absences
